This weekend is the Pride Celebration for PDX, makes me ponder about our many struggles, and those still to be won. I wonder at what point will we be truly equal by law? The fight must continue!! I strongly believe the Gay Community needs to get behind Ted Olson and David Boies. These are the lawyers from the original Bush and Gore team from 2000. I listened to them, and they make sense. It’s a pure legal question that needs to be brought before the United States Supreme Court. It is not a state by state issue. It is fundamental rights issue that can not be taken down by a proposition. Could you imagine if a proposition passed that denied mixed race people the right to marry? It would be thrown out as unconstitutional. What’s the difference? Both have some loose interpretation in the bible about it being ungodly like. I also believe it’s a pure and simply unconstitutional to ban same sex marriage base on separation of Church and State. President Obama said that the Government should not be in the marriage business when he was asked if he supported Gay Marriage. I say to him, than get the Government out of it. Only Civil unions should be recognized by the Government, and it would be up to the couples to have it recognized by their place of worship. It’s time for the United States to join the 21st Century and stop allowing open bigotry towards Gay people.

I was at a bar the other night and noticed one of the waiters was, well, family. He was a younger guy, but not yet a queen. This made me start wondering about rankings in the gay world. At what point do you become a full fledge queen? I do believe age as something to do with it and also experience that comes with that age. A good queen doesn’t put up with any shit, and she knows what is important and what is not. Many younger guys try to think that they are queens, and believe all knowledge as been achieved, but in reality they’re just simply ignorant. So therefore, they rank at perhaps a princess or even lower, depending on the level of stupidity. Many may be a drama queens, but this is not to be confused with the real thing. I encountered an “emo” type gay boy on the MAX the other day. Little pouty thing, frankly reminded me of a mouse. Now this I would rank at the Tinkerbell level. Simply annoying, and actually believes people really give a shit about her. So at one end we have Tinkerbells and the other Queens. Yes, I do believe that more must be investigated on this topic. I do believe many more blogs are in order.

I am having second, third and fourth thoughts about what the PDX Mayor should do. I’m still pissed off that he lied about the relationship, and some other possible shady deals in the cover-up, but I have been thinking some more about it. Tell me why was his relationship with the young man brought up during the campaign in the first place? It was done for one reason, so his opponent could win. Politics are nasty and vicious. Is it right, no, but its reality. If he would have come clean at that time, damage would have been kept to a minimum. He should have learned from the Clinton scandal. As Nixon said once; “it’s the cover up that gets you”. So he has a boy- toy! How many politicians have someone on the side? And what business is it of ours? At least he has good taste. I will take this bimboy over Monica L! I feel lesson has been learned. If he is to continue to have a boy-toy, come clean about it, and keep it clear of city hall. I say ride out the political storm. Now of course, if more shadiness comes to light, I may change my mind again. Hey at least this is a good diversion from the bad economic news. I was thinking about a new tactic that perhaps we should adopt, I call it the nice offensive versus the in your face approach. What I would like to see is Gay people to be known for how generous we are, and also how nice we are to deal with. Here is a way to begin; when it comes to tipping, if you have the means, tip often and generously. We always tip the maid at a hotel, 20 percent for a waiter/waitress, at least a dollar per drink for the bar back or bartender. This becomes especially important in bad economic times. If people who work in hotels, restaurants, bars, be it straight or Gay want our business, they will support us. We have made huge strides in the business world already, but we can win the hearts of the workers also. Let us not be those stingy bitches, but benevolent Queens!

Have you ever looked around, and after unfortunately zeroing in on certain people, you hope to God they did not or will not breed? I have been riding the MAX (light rail in PDX) and have noticed a few of those lower Darwinian creatures. Their conversational capabilities alone make them candidates for much needed non-breeding laws. Here is an encounter I had a few days ago, I was awe struck by the unbelievable command of the English language this young white trash male demonstrated when talking on his cell phone to an, I assumed, equally trashy low intellect girl friend. Here was the exchange; “Ah what are you doin tonight dewd? I gettin fuckin drunk man, yeah, hahaha, yeah man drunk, yeah uh, yeah yep drunk, you be drunk, yea, ah yeah” Of course, we all could hear the impressive use of vocabulary . I wanted to tell him, yes please get drunk and die from alcohol poisoning, and do it quickly before you manage to reproduce yourself. Another example of infliction upon the public was a fine looking couple, probably the result of generations of inter-breeding, kissing and tonguing each other right there for everybody to witness. Mmmm, just what we all want to see, too bad they could not just trip and fall under the train before they manage to produce an offspring equally as ugly as they are. And some certain churches and straight people worry about Gay people marrying? Holy shit; at least we don’t reproduce and inflict our deposits on future generations.

Some of the most stupid laws apply to, and around, liquor. Have you ever wondered where in the hell they came up with some of these? Here are a few questions I have: Why are bars required to serve food if they sell hard liquor? In most states, except for Oregon, YIPPEE, full frontal nudity and booze is a big no no, why? Who in the hell came up with 21, and why isn’t it 18? Why can’t bars be open 24 hours? And for those states that don’t allow selling of alcohol on Sundays read the constitution about separation of Church and State. What’s the real root of these stupid laws, and also anything that regulates our so called morality? It’s from the most unfun sour grapes of humans to live, Puritans! Yes them, the ones we celebrate every Thanksgiving. I should remind you; these are the same group of people that burned witches in Salem.

Hmmm....the attraction to the young, and when I say young, I mean 18 and up. I may be Gay, but not a perv. So what is it? To me it is interesting. What is it about the young that we are so attracted to? Yep, the young are perceived as beautiful and full of life. You see it over and over at the bar, lonely older guys lusting after something that will, most of the time, have nothing to do with them. As an older guy, I know that I have made an ass of myself several times. I have some advice for both sides, if you want to listen, good, if not, well stop reading. If you’re older, and you lust after the young, get ready to have your heart broken over and over again. If you’re young, be flattered that men are looking at you, it won’t last very long, and don’t be rude! Sometimes, it is good to talk to someone that has been around the block a few times. You may think you know it all, but frankly you don’t know crap. It takes age to realize that it’s all shit. Then again, sometimes we just don’t grow up.

I have been reading the biography of John Adams. It struck me, when they wrote the Declaration of Independence, and also the Constitution, not once did it say: All men are created equal except for the Gays, interesting. It took the African Americans almost one hundred years to get their rights. I ask them, please let us have ours. We have been at it for about 40 years. Local arts

I have been to many restaurants and have seen artwork on the walls by local artist. I wonder; do these actually sell? When some one is stuffing their face with food, do they pay attention to what is on the wall? I sometimes wonder if it is a way for a restaurant to have free art on the wall. There has got to be a way to promote the arts that the artist gets a cut. You have galleries, which are a bunch of snobs, restaurants that take it for free, and art walks that don’t really benefit the artist. And not one of them works to sell the art. Hmmm, damn it!

What and the hell happened to summer? At least it’s still warm, but crap it’s September!! At least one thing, the damn conventions are over with, a virtual parade of professional bullshitters, oh wait, I mean politicians. Now we are down to less than 3 months before the election is over. But here is a thought; Canada just called for elections, they will have started and finished the whole election in 4 weeks, wow. Why can’t we do that?

Local Art, Damn It!!!!!!

Do you really think people actually buy what art they want, or, do you think they purchase what is mass marketed to them? I believe it’s the mass marketing. So many people are so worried about what they are “supposed” to have on their walls, instead of what they want. Why in the world anyone buys and pays more for a mass printing of 650,000 of some ridiculously quaint cottage among an even more ridiculous flower garden, than buy a truly original from some local artist. IT’S BEYOND ME!! People make your house unique, it’s YOUR home. For crap sake, think local and support the artists you have right here, what ever city that might be. Here in Portland, we have many art festivals, I see many people attending, but I wonder how many actually buy? GO LOCAL, DAMN IT!! That’s what I say.

Great Art at Alberta

I ran across some great art at the Alberta Street Art Walk in Portland today. A stand out was Paul Solevad. I loved his steel bridge scene. For those of you that buy print number 165,000 out of a 600,000 run of Thomas Kincaid, shame on you. There is amazing talent locally, screw what you think you are suppose to have on the wall, go local and be unique. And Paul Solevad was one of them that should be on the wall. I was very impressed. Alberta Street Art Walk

Well, I am going to the Alberta Street art walk today here in Portland, let’s hope there is something controversial, and ballsy. I am so sick and tired of political correctness, and worrying about offending someone. Holy shit, what happened to freedom of speech and expression?

Honking in the tunnel

Okay, I have now lived in Beaverton for about 3 months now and have wondered why in the hell do so many people honk their horns in the Vista Ridge Tunnel? You know the one people of PDX, the tunnel on 26, yes that one. We had a tunnel in Tacoma on the waterfront that was down right scary; you had to honk your horn so you would avoid a head on collision. But your tunnel is so nice and wide. So what is it? Hmmm, I saw a bumper sticker that said; “Keep Portland Weird” Perhaps that answers my question.

Dragonfly

I was working in my garden and noticed this huge, and I mean huge dragonfly hovering over me. Frankly I thought it was a B-2 bomber, than I realized my mistake, this was so much bigger. Its wings were flapping much like that of a helicopter’s blades, and its eyes stared right at me, I thought that I was doomed. I wanted to warn the neighbors to get their children and pets inside, schools needed to notified, but then again, at least the neighborhood would be quiet… hmmm yes..

Shopper's RageYou have all heard of road rage; how about shopper’s rage? I don’t know about you, but I have to talk to myself before I go into that great big warehouse store that starts with a C and ends with an O. I love the products, but holy cow, the huge carts and the herds around the feeding stations, crap! I have this little inner voice screaming; GET OUT OF MY WAY, or sometimes, RAMMING SPEED!! Okay, stay cool, do not run down grandma or grandpa who’s trying to figure out that Blue Tooth doesn’t mean some dental problem, you’ll be there soon enough, and you too will have some rude middle aged male wanting to run you down too...
